FTVMS 301

Film and Video Production

Please note: this is archived course information from 2011 for FTVMS 301.

Description

This course is a practical production class in which students get the opportunity to develop, shoot and edit a short documentary. In a small seminar setting, students work in groups to learn video production technique. There is a strong emphasis upon identifying good film topics, acquiring basic skills, and being able to work collaboratively. In addition to covering ‘how to’ work small prosumer DV cameras, students learn how to edit on non-linear digital workstations. However, this course is not strictly vocational in its orientation. Students are required to read theoretical and technical literature, seminars include screenings, and students are encouraged to explore the boundaries of documentary form. This course is limited to 16 students. There is a selection process for this ‘competitive entry’ course. See FTVMS website or contact the Department for details and application form.
