Film and Broadcast Writing

Description

This course is concerned with scriptwriting for short film and is designed to help potential writers bridge the gap between theory and practice. The specific focus of the course will be on principles of dramatic writing for film and television. While students will develop their own scripts in various formats, they will also learn the elements of script analysis such as genre, structure, and narrative strategies. The weekly classes will be a combination of lectures and workshops, with the latter designed to facilitate an interactive environment in which students develop their ideas into pitches, treatments, step-outlines and finally short scripts. This course is limited to 15 students. There is a selection process for this ‘competitive entry’ course. See FTVMS website or contact the Department for details and application form.
