Research Skills in Social Science

Description
If you are considering majoring in one of the social sciences, or simply interested in improving your research skills, then Research Skills in Social Science will be of use to you.
The focus of the course is skills-based and emphasises abilities and insights that are needed in social sciences research. Six concepts have been selected to structure a suite of skills for the starter researcher and to provide insight into research in the School of Social Sciences:
- literacy – using words in rich accounts
- numeracy – statistics and the big picture
- computing – unpacking big data
- ethics – care for the other
- reflexivity – locating the self
- Treaty of Waitangi obligations – practices of partnership
Lecturing staff drawn the School of Social Sciences will provide accounts of research that exemplify this suite of skills.
