French Translation Practice

Description

This course is designed for students wishing to develop practical translation skills and provides an introduction to professional translation.

All lectures/classes will have a hands-on, practical focus. The course will include an introduction to translation of a variety of text types that may include journalistic, academic, literary, administrative, technical and consumer-oriented texts. The course will also involve a focus on using written translation as a means of linguo-stylistic analysis of French and English texts.

By the end of this course, students will have gained the skills needed to translate accurately a variety of text types from French into English, for a variety of target audiences. Students will also gain an awareness of cultural issues at stake in translation.
