Description

Explores the historical construction of "race" in New Zealand and in the USA, asking how claims and assumptions about "racial" difference among different peoples have structured systems of inequality, past and present. Topics include changing understandings of race and ethnicity, culture and identity, politics and policy in the context of colonial expansion, immigration, urbanisation, economic/labour systems and citizenship struggles after 1600.
