Description

Korean 705 ‘Advanced Translation Practice’ is for a practical training in translation between Korean and English for postgraduate students whose first language is Korean or anyone who is fluent in Korean. We will practice translation of various texts that students are interested in, which may include literary, academic, or technical works. We will also cover practical matters how to minimise translation errors, how to conduct group translation work efficiently, and how to conduct translation-related research.

We will start the part with the history of translation in modern Korea and the current situation of translation market in Korea and the world. In particular, we will explore why there have been rapidly increasing needs for the translation of Korean academic and semi-academic materials into English.

We will also explore the ways to overcome such problems and to find ways to improve the quality of such translation. Students are encouraged to apply their translation theoretical background. By the end of the course, students are expected to be confident in translating various kinds of texts between Korean and English.

No prior knowledge of Translation is required, but one has to be fluent both in Korean and English.
