Special Topic: Capitalism and Consumerism in United States History
Description
This course examines the development of consumerism as an economic and social order in the United States, focusing on the twentieth century. It asks how the consumption of goods and services assumed a dominant place in American life and considers the ways in which market relations and the commodification of things have shaped cultural forms, social practices, and political movements.
