Television Journalism

Description
A practical course where students explore the production of current affairs journalism, open to students majoring in Media, Film and Television; Screen Production or Communication.
Students learn to write, video, present and edit short news items in the field and integrate these into a multi-camera production recorded as live in the television studio. Studio skills include directing, production management, multi-cam scripting, vision switching, presenting and interviewing within a framework of current industry practice.
Class limits information for 2017: Enrolment is limited to 30 students. On-time applications will be selected on the following criteria, ranked in order of importance: 1. Completion of COMMS 100 or FTVMS 100 and 101; 2. Qualitative evaluation of the application including brief critique of a nominated television interview; 3. GPA; 4. Evidence of previous industry/production experience; 5. The qualitative evaluation of examples of creative work or evidence of leadership/performance experience; 6. The qualitative evaluation of a personal statement of intent.

COMMS 100 or FTVMS 100, and 15 points from COMMS 104, FTVMS 110, ENGLISH 121
