Modern France: History and Culture

Description
This course in French history will offer an analysis of how France has been shaped by diverse historical and cultural legacies since the Sixteenth Century. Topics include the role of religion, the transformations of the state, the significance of revolution and the role of war and colonial expansion in modern French history. The course will foster an understanding of how key components of contemporary France such as the separation of church and state and the Republican model have been shaped by historical events.
The course will be taught in English.

Essay: 2 x 1,500 words
