French Translation Practice

Description

This course is designed for students wishing to develop practical translation skills and provides an introduction to professional translation.

All lectures/classes will have a hands-on, practical focus. The course will include: Introduction to translation, contrastive analysis, translation of journalistic and literary texts during the first half of the course followed by a selection among academic, administrative, technical and consumer-oriented texts.

By the end of this course, students will have gained the skills needed to accurately translate a variety of text types from French into English, for a variety of target audiences. Students will also learn how to tackle sentence-level translation from English into French.
