Description

A study of culture in texts and films from French-speaking areas outside France, which may include North Africa, Africa, Canada, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

This course will trace the history of French colonisation and its legacy, with a special focus on the relationship between language and identity.

Students will be introduced to some major and influential authors and thinkers of the Francophone world, as well as to key concepts of postcolonial theory.
