Examines the rise of modern Western medicine since 1850 and its impact, with a particular emphasis on Britain and its colonies.

Topics include public health, hospitals, nursing, psychiatry, sexual health, reproductive health, child health, tuberculosis, medicine and war, and alternative medicines.
