Special Topic: The Practice and Politics of History

What do history practitioners do?  How do they select, design, shape and conduct historical research projects?

"The Practice and Politics of History" gives students the opportunity to apply historical skills and methods to particular stories, questions, objects, landscapes and contemporary issues, from those on the University of Auckland’s doorstep to ngā hau e whā, the four winds.

Students enrolling in the course ought to be prepared to:

  • Collaborate with classmates and course conveners in a cooperative teaching and learning environment
  • Critically inquire through seminars, workshops and experiential learning
  • Work independently on a practical research project to be discussed, determined and designed in the course
