Description

At the MA level this course can be taken either as part of the Italian MA or as a component in the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation Studies. As part of the professional Diploma course this paper offers the practical training which complements the theory, research skills and professional issues covered in the other translation papers.

This course is designed to offer students with excellent skills in English and Italian the opportunity to develop practical translation skills. Students learn how to analyse a text for translation and explore the numerous procedures involved in the translation of a variety of text-types including societal, commercial, legal, technical and medical texts. We will also explore theories of translations as well as current issues in the field which students will then be expected to further explore in a seminar presentation. Text analysis, translation process, language functions, translation methods, culture and translation are examples of some of the topics covered in the course.
