Structural Analysis of the Japanese Language

Description

This course is an introduction to the linguistic analysis of the structure of the Japanese language for intermediate students of the Japanese language. It covers such topics as pronunciation, phonological structure, the Japanese writing system and grammatical topics, focusing on providing a structured analysis of points already covered but spread out at different stages of first and second year Japanese, and providing the knowledge necessary to “work out” novel forms when encountered. Different styles of language, including formal/informal, men’s/women’s language will also be analysed.
