Instructed Language Learning

This course aims to develop an understanding of how languages are learned and how language learning theories can inform language instruction.

By the end of this course students will:

Have a general view of the factors that affect second language learning, both inside classrooms and in instructed contexts beyond the classroom such as study abroad
Be able to explain basic language learning theories and models
Be able to relate learning to social and ethical issues, such as learner identity
Be able to apply what they have learned to evaluate, analyse and critique instruction practices
