Summary of Course Description              

Students analyse the structure of an unfamiliar language, focusing on phonetics and phonology. The language studied in LINGUIST 705 and 706 may be the same in any given academic year.

Course outcomes

A student who successfully completes this course will have the opportunity to:

  • Acquire knowledge of field techniques for investigating an unfamiliar language
  • Learn how to document the phonetics and phonology of a language
  • Acquire skills in linguistic argumentation by analysing the phonological structures of a language
