Pacific Music and Dance

Description

Introduction to the performing cultures of the Pacific with emphasis on their composition, histories and social function. Topics covered include hula (Hawaiian Dance), faiva faka-Tonga (Tongan dance) and siva ma fa’afiafiaga (Samoan performing arts). A broad range of performance genres will be covered including contemporary Pacific music, clowning and theatre. Practical instruction is also included as a component of the course.
