PHIL 746 - Philosophy of Mind 2
Faculty of Arts
PHIL 746
Philosophy of Mind 2
Description
This course will be concerned with the philosophy of action and will focus on (1) the analysis of motivated irrationality – as found, for example, in weakness of will (akrasia) and in self-deception, and (2) a contemporary defence of a compatibilist position on the "free will' problem and its connection with a causal theory of action, according to which behaviour counts as intentional action in so far as it is caused by suitably "rationalising" mental states.
