Description

Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra

This paper will focus on one of Friedrich Nietzsche’s most popular books, Thus Spoke Zarathustra-- A Book for All and None  (1883-85).  We will work through the book section by section, and will discuss his key ideas of the Superhuman, the Will to Power, the Eternal Recurrence, the Death of God.  We will also consider Nietzsche’s associated views on truth, the value of suffering, and the meaning of human life.  In conjunction with the original text, we will compare and contrast the views of contemporary interpreters of Nietzsche’s positions as expressed in Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and consider alternative interpretations of the character of Zarathustra in this key work.
