Thinking Revolution: Early-Modern Politics

Description

The course advances understanding of key ideas and thinkers in the development of western political thought from c.1640-1800. Ideas include: natural law, liberty and rights; republicanism; social contract; law of nations; toleration and Enlightenment; political economy and property; political legitimacy and representation; revolution. Thinkers include Hobbes, Spinoza, Locke, Hume, Rousseau, Smith and Burke.
