Screenplay Writing

Description

A practical screenwriting course in which students work individually and collectively to learn principles of dramatic writing for short films. 

Course Objectives

  • To introduce you to the fundamentals and principles of dramatic writing for screen
  • To demonstrate effective modes of storytelling within fictional shorts
  • To expose you to the "industry-standard" formats essential for a screenplay writer
  • To familiarise you with various professional aspects of screenplay writing. This includes working collegially and maintaining deadlines
  • To help you understand and explore the dynamics of constructive criticism also known as the "development process" in the film and television industry
  • To make you aware of local and international funding and distribution opportunities for short films

Class limits information for 2021: Enrolment is limited to 40 students. This course is open to Screen majors who have successfully completed both SCREEN 200 and 201. Non Screen majors  who have successfully completed 60-points at stage-2 may apply by filling an online application.  

This class has limited places in order to allow for adequate attention to each student. It is workshop based with various screenwriting assignments. As part of the SCREEN Stage III program it must align with attendance in other courses to maintain parity and student scheduling.
