THEOREL 309

Directed Study 1

Description

Students will undertake a course of directed study on a topic in Theological and Religious Studies approved by the Academic Head and directed by a member of academic staff with relevant expertise.

This is a valuable opportunity for students to work on a project that is of particular interest to them, with the guidance and supervision of an academic staff member. You will learn the research skills required to create, organise and execute a research project, including forming a sound thesis question, conducting literature searches, writing a project proposal, forming an annotated bibliography and, finally, writing a research essay.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Critically investigate a topic or issue of interest in the field of Theology and/or Religious Studies
  • Develop a research proposal relevant for the selected project
  • Locate research resources of a range and quality appropriate to an undergraduate research project
  • Present findings in a research essay that shows evidence of critical engagement with scholarship on the chosen topic
