Description

This course covers the foundations of translation and interpreting as an academic discipline and as an increasingly important professional field of work which serves a multicultural and multilingual society.

The course is designed to equip both monolingual students and students with additional language skills to acquire the literacy in translation and interpreting increasingly needed to navigate today’s globalised world and overcome communication gaps in diverse business and private contexts.

Ranging from technological to ethical issues, the course will gives you a useful and stimulating grounding to facilitate your understanding of the complex role and function played by translation and interpreting in everyday and business settings, whether by humans or digital technologies.

Through active learning and collaborative problem-solving exercises, you will:

  • Build on your interest in different languages and cultures towards future career options while learning about the dynamics of interlingual and intercultural communication.
  • Benefit from the opportunity to learn how professional and non-professional translation and interpreting are used in a wide range of settings.
  • Develop translation and interpreting literacy to understand challenges and solutions in facilitating communication across different languages and cultures, including the use of technologies.
