Aim/objectives: This course is a continuation of KOREAN110 and aims to expand students’ communicative skills in modern Korean. Through listening, speaking, reading and writing practice, students will learn to carry out a conversation on broader topics of daily-life, to comprehend simple Korean texts and to write about their own everyday life on a basic level.

- Cecil Activities and Announcements
Activities on cecil (http://www.cecil.auckland.ac.nz) developed for KOREAN110 are available to students enrolled in the course. These activities will appear on line for two weeks. For the time of availability please refer to the schedule. On campus, students can use computer labs in the Human Science Building or the Student Commons to access the exercises. Students are expected to check Cecil regularly for announcements etc. - Digital Audio Files* (see below for the latest information)
Students are encouraged to use the Language Lab in the Arts 1, Room 214 (8:30-4:30) for listening to the CDs that accompany the textbook.
Although not related to the outline of this course, students can benefit from Teen Korean, a CD Rom developed by the Korean Overseas Foundation. This CD is also in the Language Lab. - Workbook
Students are also encouraged to do the exercises in Integrated Korean Workbook Beginning 1. The workbook and the textbook can be found in the Short Loan Desk and on the 3rd and 5th floors of the General Library. Please note:
- Students are expected to read over the lesson in the schedule including New Words and Expressions, Culture and Grammar before each class.
- Assignments must be submitted on the due date.
- There will be no make up tests. Students who have a valid reason and cannot sit a test on the dates specified must inform the lecturer in writing in advance of the test.

- DELNA (Diagnostic English Language Needs Assessment) will help identify all first-year students’ academic English proficiency and help staff guide them to the most appropriate English language support. Students are advised to book for the assessment at www.delna.auckland.ac.nz/booking/.

How to use digital audio files
Opening an audio file from the server:
- Login to the computer (ctrl / alt / delete):
User Name = sonylab
Password = sonylab
Log on to = ARTSNET - Login to the Sony Soloist language lab system
Login = your UPI - Click on the open file icon (small yellow folder) on the Sony Soloist interface window:
You will see the “lessons” folder - Open the subject folder (eg French / Russian)
- Open a sub-folder if relevant (eg Ruslan / Vocab / French 101)
- Double-click on the sound file required
Using audio files:
- Click the play / stop / fast forward /rewind / recap/ controls in the on-screen Sony Soloist interface window
- You can also move the slider to select a point in the file
- Click the record control to record your voice, then the rewind and play controls to hear yourself and the original audio
- Click one of the bookmark numbers while playing a file to bookmark a point in the file, then click the bookmark number while playing the file to go to that point from elsewhere
- Adjust the volume by clicking on the volume control icon in the Sony soloist interface window. There is also a manual headset volume control below the desk
How to use multimedia software:

To help students familiarize themselves with using the audio programmes a staff from the Language Labs Library will be available in the lab for 1 hour for the FIRST 2 WEEKS OF TEACHING ONLY as follows:
Monday 1 - 2pm,
Tuesday 12 - 1,
Wednesday 11 - 12,
Thursday and Friday 12:30 - 1:30.
