Introduction

Aim/objectives:  
This course aims to expand students’ communicative skills to an intermediate level. By introducing further points of grammar and practicing their usage through listening, speaking, reading and writing activities, students are expected to carry out daily life conversations using appropriate speech levels, to comprehend intermediate-level Korean texts and to write about their own everyday life.

Assessment:  Coursework (60%) + Final Exam (40%)

Total          60 %

The dates for the coursework are indicated in the schedule.
Apart from the coursework, vocab quizzes will be held before the start of each lesson.

Final Exam

A two-hour exam will be held during the exam period. Reading and writing skills will be assessed in the final exam.

The guidelines for tests, the assignment, the presentation and final exam will be presented in classes and posted on Cecil.

1. Cecil Activities and Announcement
Activities on Cecil (http://cecil.auckland.ac.nz/login.aspx) developed for KOREAN200 are available to students enrolled in the course. These activities will appear on line for two weeks.  For the time of availability please refer to the schedule. In the campus, students can use computer labs in the Human Science Building or the Student Commons to access the exercises.
Students are expected to check Cecil regularly for announcements and guidelines for tests, the assignment, the presentation.

2. Digital Audio Files
Students are encouraged to use the Language Lab in the ARTS 214
for listening CDs which accompany the textbook (workbook). This Lab is open for Self Access Study (8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday). Instructions are on board. Although unrelated to the outline of this course, students can benefit from Teen Korean, a CD Rom developed by the Korean Overseas Foundation. This CD is also in the Language Lab.

3. Library
The textbook can be found in the Short Loan Desk and on the 3rd and 5th floors of the General Library.  The library holds several kinds of Korean language textbooks, Korean dictionaries and reference books.

4. On-line Dictionary

Please note:
• Students are expected to read over the lesson in the schedule including New Words and Expressions, Culture and Grammar before each class.
• Assignment must be submitted on the due date.
• There will be no make up tests. Students who have a valid reason and cannot sit a test on the dates specified must inform the lecturer in writing in advance of the test.
