In addition to the lectures there will be tutorials (“labs”).

The tutorials are an integral part of the course, and you will be expected to attend them.

They will have an extensive practical component. You will be taught how to apply the concepts discussed in the lectures and how to do linguistic analysis.

The take-home assignments will be problems in analysis, and the work done in the tutorials will prepare you for them.

In the tutorials you will also have an opportunity to ask questions about material covered in the lectures. (Of course, you can also ask questions during lectures, but because of the large size of the class not many people like to ask questions there.)

The tutorials will start in the second week of the semester.
