Dictionaries

You do not need to purchase a dictionary for SPANISH 104, as all vocabulary is contained in the textbook. However, if you do wish to acquire one, we recommend the Collins Spanish Concise Dictionary for this level.

A complete collection of Spanish dictionaries is available for consultation in the Arts/Science Library. To learn how to use the library’s catalogue, please take their online tutorial.

Electronic dictionaries are available online.

DVD for Nuevo Ven 1

The DVD for Nuevo Ven 1 is available for viewing in the Audiovisual Library (Arts 212, ext. 87471). Here there is also an excellent collection of feature films, documentaries, and language videos relating to the Hispanic world, which you are encouraged to see and enjoy.

You can also view the Es Español 1 video, No. LV 04155, used in our previous courses. This video does not correspond exactly to the Nuevo Ven 1 course, but will reinforce it.

Language study is cumulative

SPAN 104/104G has 4 contact hours per week. Attendance at all lectures is essential in order to gain oral practice and comprehension skills.

Language acquisition builds on previous knowledge and you cannot cram at the end; daily study for short periods of time to memorise vocabulary and verbs offers the best strategy for success.

Your homeworks and tests enable you to structure and build on your study efficiently. For each class hour you should study one hour at home. In all, with classes and personal study, you should spend 10 hours per week on Spanish 104/104G.
