Du Fu (712 - 770) was a poet of the High Tang dynasty in China. He was a Confucian statesman for whom success in politics was illusive. He tended to write poetry that expressed his dissatisfaction with his life, recorded the effects of war and bemoaned the corruption of the court and the social decay of the time.
