Born in 1934, Gloria Steinem is renown as a journalist and feminist leader and as the founder of Ms magazine, the first national women's magazine run by women. She established herself as a serious journalist at a time when women had few opportunities to report on serious issues. She was one of the founding editors of New York magazine, politically active and a leading spokesperson for the women's liberation movement from its early days. As well as her journalistic work she has published a number of books.
